| Hi Students, Wow. So you are going to help people! That's great. Lets hope they want helping. It makes things a lot easier. I hope you feel you are going to make a change!. I did, over 30 years ago. I have had an impact but I am still working on it. I hope you have some stamina. Mostly, it is important to bring others along with you. Well, what are these pages about? Well they are an extension of the rest of the site really. No reason why you should not make a contribution there. I have a prejudice though, I found that Students and newly qualifies people are the most challenging and exciting to work with. Newly trained people are willing to take calculated risks and are more open to possibilities. It is very difficult to keep those initiative up. There is considerable resistance from established practitioners, for lots of reasons. Some are good; they counter our over-enthusiasm and keep us grounded. Some are bad; they resent the impact of change and difference. The reasons for this are varied and complex and I would argue that it is a part of the 'natural order' of things. If you have a good idea, or method, technique, or a different perspective on things, those who are established will want it proven to them. Also, moving from one perspective to another gets difficult as we get older. There are lost of other contributing factors, that I and others discuss on this site. Mostly, anything new has to be 'tested' in some way. Sometimes this has to be in the form of 'research', especially if it can have serious negative impact. We always have to consider the bad 'potential' consequences of any 'good' changes. Sometimes it can be done by review of our peers. Scientist don't do this 'logical' checking out enough and we see the consequences in the way antibiotics are having less efficacy, while they are also helping to generate more virulent strains of disease. It is also worth noting that it is possible to get a good effect form what appeared to be an otherwise negative. Any potent and effective idea, or piece of technology, if it is truly powerful, can be used to great benefit, or great harm. It can also have effects in the range in between. Be careful with your ideas, others may not be so careful. Identify and point out the 'risks'. Anyway, it doesn't have to be all good works and serious intent. Please also enjoy yourselves and, if you have an idea but think it is a bit silly, you may find it isn't so silly when you check it out with others. Perhaps you have something that will just make us laugh. Well, that's OK to. Its therapeutic. So, have fun and cheer this site up a bit, with some bright ideas. By the way. I will be starting a 'Technology' section soon. Look out for that - you will be surprised what is on its way in terms of 'expert systems' and 'Virtual Aides'. See you soon, I hope.
