| Here we go: Big Green Gathering Has Been Cancelled I have just heard from an organiser and Green Campaigner, on Facebook that The Big Green Gathering has been cancelled. I don't have all the details yet, but I understand that this is due to the actions (or inactions) of Mendip District Council and Somerset Police. Whatever the reason, you can bet that this well organised event, of many years standing, dedicated to the protection of our mutual environment, has been stopped for duplicitous reasons. All opportunities for ordinary concerned people to improve their environment and have a say in how industry & commerce uses our shared resources (and ourselves) in unhealthy ways, are being undermined. I (and others) will keep you posted. Check Article: SchNEWS Information for Acton _____________________________________________________________________________ In the News recently (and all to often): Once more in the News we have seen media descriptions of a gruesome assault and near death experience, of a young woman 'Attacked by a Schizophrenic'. These mindless reports are just too frequent. When will professionals start to forcefully inform the Media that such descriptions are as prejudiced as 'Pakistani Kills Young Woman'. Or, are some less insightful professionals just as responsible for this kind of distortion? People described as having Schizophrenia, Alcoholism, Drug Addiction, Learning Difficulties are no more likely to have a Homicidal tendency than the average member of the population. People with 'problems' come in all shapes and sizes. Psychopathic, Sociopathic and Homicidal tendencies affect all sectors and classes, including Journalists and other people with psychosis (alternative realities) from whatever cause. In most instances of homicide, by people who happen to have a diagnosis of schizophrenia, the 'condition' played no significant part in the assault, or killing. Closer examination of evidence will often indicate that a criminal action is explainable in other human terms; like anger, fear, jealousy, revenge, grudge and violent tendencies, for any number of other reasons, present in 'normal' people. Only on rare occasions does psychosis play a significant part. It is more intelligently viewed as sometimes having a contributory influence, but more often should be viewed as having a mitigating effect. I describe else where on www.visitweb.org, how this misunderstanding comes about, often through lack of rigorous thinking and unintentionally collusive forms of rationales. The consequences are worrying and seriously impact upon Human Rights. In the main, Legal prerogatives have distorted the purpose of psychiatric diagnosis.
