First They Came . . . .
         . . . . a warning lesson on procrastination & fear:

"First they came for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up,

. . . . . . . because I wasn’t a Communist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up,

. . . . . . . because I wasn’t a Jew.

Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak up,

. . . . . . . because I was a Protestant.

(Then they came for the 'Mentally ill', 'the disabled', the 'feeble minded', etc - Still no one spoke up),

Then they came for me,

. . . . . . . and by that time there was no one left to speak up for me."

A Poem by Pastor Martin Niemöller, who went to prison for 'Speaking Up'.

This poem has been expressed in a number of variations, but the underlying message is unmistakable, to all 'thinking' and Just people.
