Prejudice, Neglect & Abuse Causes Serious Mental Ill Health
Explains how Prejudice, Neglect and Abuse has a profound effect upon a person's Mental Health and how this 'cause and effect' is often poorly understood by Professionals & Institutions. Public opinion is formed on 'Expert' opinions.
è
2
Human Rights, Institutions and Professionals
Human Rights and Professional Attitudes - How institutions misunderstand fundamental Human Rights, as incorporated into European Law. There is a poor understanding of constraints upon the 'Special Powers' of Professionals
è
3
Towards a better Institutional, Professional & Media Understanding
A call for improved Public, Institutional, Professional & Media Understanding concerning Abuse & Mental Health. Critique of Psychiatric thinking as 'Prejudicial' to Human Rights & Understanding. Public opinion is formed on 'Expert' opinions.
è
4
Copy Cat Failures - Change for Change sake and for the wrong reasons
Explanation why 'Models of Good Practice' in health & social care, often fail when introduced into existing institutional practice. Considers how these repeated 'failed' introductions reflect, unjustly, on the original sound concepts.
è
5
The Politics of Human Rights - The benefits to social & economic advance
There are historical phases, within nations, cultures & organisations, where a less prejudicial balance of opportunity & power, more equitable opportunity & accountability, have produced; very effective, rapid advances & increased stability.
è
6
Social Attitudes and Human Rights
There is a particular risk that arises from complacency, often the consequence of the over confident assumption and assertions, which then compromise the underlying legal and 'felt' human rights. Human Rights are Law, but are ignored.
è
7
How to Seek Redress for Abuse & Prejudice:
The conventional practice is to request that the perpetrator adjust their behaviour. The Conventions on Human Rights recognise that imbalance of power may require an intermediary, the police, courts and other 'protection' agencies. In failures to act: Approach the next most appropriate Authority, Professional Bodies, MP, or Local Councillor, etc. Stick with it and record & report incidents in detail.
è
8
Prejudice, Neglect & Abuse and Human Rights:
The abuses that people experience are varied and happen in every kind of circumstance. Many behaviours that have been accepted as 'normal' are no longer acceptable in terms of United Nations and European Union Conventions on Human Rights and UK Law (European Court of Justice - The Final Arbiter).

United Nations Treaty Updates - THESE ARE THE LAW
A United Nations treaty - or "convention" - on Disability has been ratified and came into effect on the 3 May 2008. United Nations Treaty on Disability and Human Rights Now in Effect Globally. UN Press Release: Treaty on Disability Ratified.
è

Institutional Abuse - The link with social Prejudice, Neglect & Abuse
Addressing those who have suffered serious neglect, prejudice &/or abuse in any form, or degree, at any time in their lives. The abuses, prejudices and injustices that we feel, or 'experience', eventually become very real and obvious to us. These understandings are not always so clear to others, including professionals and social institutions, who, often inadvertently, operate prejudicially and abusively.

General Press Releases & Supportive Evidence
The Charter on Human Rights Applies to YOU. United Nation's and European Union's Conventions on Human Rights, now have the effective status of a 'Bill of Rights' in all Countries that are Signatories and have agreed to incorporate them into National Law. We do not need to wait until all the Laws are Drafted.

Human Rights principles are evidence of underlying Psycho-Social Theory. The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2008) and the Preceding UN & EU Conventions on Human Rights, are evidence of the progression of human social adaptation. Successive Treaties, protecting populations and governing the conduct of warfare, have evolved and adapted over thousands of years.

Cut The Crap Cut the Crap
On this site you will see logical arguments about 'mental health' and 'mental illness'; supported by available evidence, anecdotes & analogies, in order to win the hearts and minds of professionals. In this section I am more interested in presenting the raw emotional, political and ethical arguments.

Although you will see very few reference to other formal writings in this document, I acknowledge general recognition to the discussions and debates that I have had with students, practitioners and clients over the years. Most of the ideas and theory has evolved through this rather pragmatic process (operational research), rather than any formal reading.

If any content of this document describes concepts, theory, or ideas that have been established else where, (prior to my writing, either here or else where - in part or in full), I acknowledge their entitlement to claim them as their intellectual property for financial purposes, if they can evidence this. I also reserve the right to retain them as my intellectual property, with due recognition to those who have made direct contributions, including other writers, should I identify such a past influences.

Other than this, I invite you to share and copy any content, to the benefit of intellectual debate and the benefit of individuals and groups, without restriction, other than it be used for constructive purpose, in the wider context of my writing.

Should you wish to use any material presented here 'as is', I ask that you then make reference to myself and the web site. The 'Reading Date' would be a useful 'publishing date' for the Current Edition. 1980 is the core publishing date for most of the basic ideas and theory (unless stated otherwise).

This 'Reading Date' may be an important part of this 'reference', as the document (by its 'internet fluid' nature) will be constantly changing and this may affect meaning and interpretation, for those following up on such a reference at a later date.

Thank you for your cooperation.
